Meet Matt Mohrfeld
Matt Mohrfeld is a lifelong Southeast Iowan, small business owner, and experienced public servant whose leadership is grounded in hard work, integrity, and community commitment. He has spent nearly five decades creating local jobs and supporting the regional economy. Mohrfeld has served the community in several elected leadership and civic roles. He is ready to use that experience to effectively represent Southeastern Iowa in the state legislature for House District 100.
Matthew J. Mohrfeld is a lifelong Southeast Iowan, small business owner, and dedicated public servant with decades of experience in leadership, community development, and hands-on problem solving. Born and raised on a dairy farm in Lee County, Iowa, Matt learned early the values of hard work, integrity, and community commitment — principles that have guided him throughout his life.
For nearly five decades, Matt Mohrfeld has owned and operated Matt's Greenhouse in Fort Madison, creating local jobs, supporting families, and contributing to the regional economy. His business experience, combined with his deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Southeast Iowa, has shaped his approach to leadership: practical, results-driven, and focused on long-term community impact.
Mohrfeld has served three terms as Mayor of Fort Madison and two terms on the Lee County Board of Supervisors, where he has emphasized responsible growth, fiscal accountability, and collaboration. During his tenure, he has spearheaded key projects, including the renovation of the Fort Madison Marina, the construction of new pickleball courts, and the creation of a new main road, all reflecting his commitment to improving quality of life for residents.
Beyond elected office, Mohrfeld has dedicated himself to community service. He has served on the State Empowerment Board for Early Childhood Development, the Fort Madison Chamber of Commerce (as President), and the YMCA Board of Directors (also as President). He has coached youth swim and cross-country programs at Holy Trinity Schools, investing in the growth and development of the next generation.
A lifelong advocate for healthy living, Mohrfeld is an avid runner and motorcyclist who believes that strong communities are built on the foundation of healthy, hopeful individuals. He and his wife, Beth, have built a family and a thriving business rooted in faith, hard work, and service. Together, they have raised a son, Jacob, and have remained active in both community and regional initiatives.
Mohrfeld’s approach to leadership combines business experience, public service, and a hands-on understanding of his community’s needs. He is committed to ensuring that Southeast Iowa has a strong voice in Des Moines, advocating for solutions that enhance economic growth, community well-being, and opportunities for all residents. “I believe in common-sense leadership, practical solutions, and investing in people — the heart of any strong community,” Mohrfeld says. “My life’s work has been about creating opportunities, supporting families, and building a future our community can be proud of.”
